YEREVAN-AUGUST 9, 2019-TOURINFO-This year the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship basketball competition took place in Andorra La Vella from July 30-August 4, 2019.

The Armenian women’s basketball team became the winner of the FIBA U18 European Championship Division C.

In the final the Armenian team defeated the team of Malta 79-73.

Armenian basketball player Kayla Keshmeshyan was named the best player of the championship. She is the youngest player in the team, who will turn 16 on August 29. She picked up the MVP award following Armenia’s title triumph.

Kayla Keshmeshyan top scored with a game-high of 24 points with Patil Yaacoubyan added 22 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists as the duo inspired their nation to a perfect tournament without defeat. Another Armenian player Meri Margaryan entered the top 5.

On August 6, 2019 the team returns to Armenia after Victory. Vahagn Harutyunyan commented on the team’s performance at the airport.

winner“We were the C Division Division 18 champions two years ago and the responsibility was great to repeat the same result, but this year it became more difficult. Malta were a very well prepared team, but our girls were able to win. The team wanted to succeed, you would not have imagined their eyes shining as they prepared for the start of the game, ”said the head coach.

Vahagn Harutyunyan stressed that they will also participate in the C Division championship next year.

“In 2021 we will just try to compete in Division B, there are completely different teams and a different level,” he concluded.
