Yerevan will become a film festival with the 20th “Golden Apricot” International Film Festival, which will be held this year on July 9-16.
“Golden Apricot” festival is 20 years old. In addition, this year is the 100th anniversary of Armenian cinema and the festival will pay special attention to these two anniversaries.
“Golden Apricot” festival is held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Armenia. Yerevan Municipality is the main sponsor this year.
According to established tradition, in the Yerevan Golden Apricot Festival, competitive films from different countries are presented, and in the “Yervan Premieres” program, films from prestigious film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, etc.) are shown. The figures of the world cinema will enter Armenia and will share their experiences and art with the female audience.
The opening ceremony of this festival will be held on July 9 at 18:00 at the sports concert complex named after Demirchian. The main events of the festival will be held in Yerevan Cinema House and Moscow Cinema. The opening of the festival is announced with the film “Luca” by Jessica Woodworth (Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Armenia), which was shown for the first time at the Rotterdam festival. Samuel Tadavosian played the lead role in this movie alongside Geraldine Chaplin.
At the end of the festival, the new color version of the movie “Calendar” by Canadian-Armenian director Atom Egoyan will be screened on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of this movie.
Within the framework of this festival, the first retrospective screening of the films of Samuel Khachikian, one of the prominent masters of Iranian cinema, will be held in Armenia.
The festival’s long-running jury is presided over by acclaimed Filipino director Lav Dias, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Among the honored guests of this festival, we can mention the Darden brothers, two-time winners of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The special guests of the festival include the Kazakh director, Sergey Dvortsoy, winner of the main prize of the “Special View” program of the Cannes Film Festival, Joel Shapron, the senior consultant of the Cannes Film Festival in the post-Soviet region.
The Gaiff Pro educational and production platform of the film festival, which is held as usual during the days of the festival, for the first time supports not only feature films, but also short films.
