Armenpress. In the framework of cooperation with the Erboni Historical and Archaeological Reserve Museum, the opening ceremony of the Erboni corner, the ancient city of Urartu, was held in the Ancient East section of the State Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg. Vagharshek Harotonyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Russia, was present at this ceremony.
The exhibition dedicated to the one hundred and fifteenth anniversary of Boris Piotrovsky, a prominent archaeologist, orientalist, former director of the Hermitage Museum, displays three unique findings from the Erbuni Museum-Historical-Geological Museum of Armenia. This exhibition will be open for visitors for about a year.
Appreciating the importance of this event, Ambassador Harotunian noted in his speech that the presented examples provide an opportunity to learn about the ancient history of Armenia as one of the foundations of human development. He emphasized that the high civilization of Urartu has left a rich legacy, the continuation of which is the unique culture of the Armenian people.
Vagarshak Harotunyan said: In the age of modern information technologies, it is possible to distort the history of the people, which was created with blood and human abuses, within a few minutes. This also refers to the fact of the ancient history of Armenia that today others are trying to change it with cheap tools and serve the interests of their country.
According to the General Director of the Armitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, the Armenian people have made a great contribution to the development of world civilization, which is evidenced by the examples that were once found in the ancient site of the Red Hill in Yerevan.
“Today we announce the revival of the Russian-Armenian archeological discoveries in the Red Hill,” said the general manager of the Hermitage. A huge amount of work was done there at one time, as a result of which some of the found items are presented in the exhibition. This event is part of the commemoration of Boris Piotrovsky.
Ambassador Harutyunyan thanked the director of Armitage for his significant contribution to the development of intercultural dialogue between Armenia and Russia and awarded him the medal of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In the framework of the cooperation of the museum, Armitage Corner will be opened in Yerevan in the near future. It was also agreed on the organization of a joint archeology event with the Arbouni Museum of History and Archeology.
