It is the year of Aznavour, dozens of events are planned in Armenia on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian chansonnier. As part of the days of Francophonie, the exhibition of cartoons of the French-Armenian cartoonist Rene Hoviv was opened today in Gyumri. And the main hero of the pictures was Charles Aznavour.
Two lucky Armenians who emigrated to France were close to each other and it was Aznavour who asked René Hoviv to design the posters for his concerts and as a result the sketches have now become exhibition samples. The members of Rene Hoviv’s family told about it, says Karen Barseghyan, director of the Aslamazian Sisters Museum.
On its own initiative, the museum also combined and animated the drawings of René Hoviv.
These are not caricatures, but smiley paintings, notes the art critic, director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Nazareth Karoyan. He thinks that the smileys have been received. Rene Hoviv was able to capture and portray correctly the movements of Aznavour singing on stage, even his facial expressions.
The main events of the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour are scheduled for May. Lilit Tovmasyan, the head of the culture department of the Gyumri municipality, says that today’s exhibition was opened.
The exhibition is traveling and in the coming days it will also travel to other cities of Armenia.
