International museum day is celebrated annually on May 18 all over the world. The first Long Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997, it was created by ICOM (International Council of Museums). The objective of International Museum Day (IMD) is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”The event highlights a specific theme that changes every year. This year the theme is “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition”.
In 2005, Armenia joined this initiative, as Armenia is a cultural center with a lot of museums and art galleries. So, if you are in Armenia do not miss your chance of the free access to Armenian museums. All the museums will be open until midnight.
You can also visit art cafes in Armenia where you can enjoy a nice evening in an atmosphere of art.
