The Seventh Summer Pan-Armenian Games opening ceremony was held at the Stepanakert’s Stepan Shahumyan Republic Stadium on August 6, 2019.
The quadrennial Games brings together hundreds of ethnic Armenian athletes from around the world are designed to foster closer relationships between Armenia and its Diaspora.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Summer Pan-Armenian games. The games have been held in Armenia since 1999. In 2014, the first winter Pan-Armenian Games took place in the Armenia’s ski resort town of Tsaghkadzor.
During these years all the games were in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, this year Stepanakert has been chosen to co-host the Games.
At 1999 the number of the participants in the games were around 1000 athletes, but this year the number of delegates reaches 5300. Representatives of 161 cities from 35 countries are taking part in this year’s Games that feature sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf, swimming, tennis, track and field athletics, cycling and others. The Games closing ceremony will be held on August 17, 2019 in Armenia’s Capital` Yerevan’s Freedom Square.
The Pan-Armenian Games is the largest and most prestigious mega sport event in Armenia, which perceives as a catalytic force in driving tourism and that allows a major acceleration of accommodation development.
