YEREVAN-TOURINFO- For the first time the Armenia’s Independence Day main events and gala concert was held outside the Capital Yerevan. This year in a cold and windy day, Armenia’s second-largest town of Gyumri hosted the major Independence Day events on September 21, 2019.
After the 1988 earthquake, major events of this magnitude were practically not held in the city. Gyumri welcomed as many as 15 thousand visitors, and all hotels in the city were booked.
The celebrations started in Gyumri’s Central Park where International Balloon Festival – Gyumri 2019, was held with pilots who came from Russia, Bulgaria, Georgia and Brazil with their own balloons.
From morning Gastro pavilions were open to public. Yerevan-based bars and cafes were operating in separate pavilions. Several music venues were in the city center with musicians of different styles – vinyl, rock, and electronic music, classical, Armenian folk, pop and jazz music.
The works by artists and craftsmen representing exclusively the Shirak region were presented and regional crafts in separate pavilions were displayed. The Main Square of Gyumri was transformed into a children’s town.
In the evening, the Vardanants Square hosted the gala concert with the participation of famous Armenian and foreign stars.
The events ended at 23:00 with festive fireworks.
