YEREVAN-TOURINFO-December 7, 2019- A statue of the Armenian American businessman, investor, and philanthropist Kirk Kerkorian was unveiled in the city of in Spitak city of Lori Province today.
The ceremony took place within the framework of the events dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Armenia that left 25,000 killed.
Kerkorian provided over $1 billion for charity in Armenia through his “Lincy Foundation”, established in 1989 and particularly focused on helping to rebuild northern Armenia after the 1988 earthquake.
Kerkorian also provided money to ensure that a film must be made based on the history of the Armenian Genocide. The resulting film, called “The Promise”, premiered in April 2017 in the United States after Kerkorian’s death.
In September 1998, Kerkorian became the “Honorable Citizen of Armenia”. In 2004 he was awarded the highest state title “National Hero of Armenia” for “Exclusive Services to the Homeland”, being awarded the “Homeland” Medal.
The statue of the National Hero of Armenia, Kirk Kerkorian unveiled in the Abovyan Street of Armenia’s second-largest city Gyumri in June 2018.
