After 45 years, the works of famous painter Minas Avetisyan were exhibited in Gyumri. Today was the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the painter’s 95th birthday.
28 paintings of Minas Avetisyan were transferred from the golden fund of the National Gallery of Armenia to the community exhibition hall of Gyumri.
With the grant program announced by the Shirak Governorate, the Kumayr Reserve Museum won the competition for holding the exhibition, and another 190,000 drams were allocated to the Gyumri Council of Elders for canvas frames.
Haykuhi Sahakyan, head of the Armenian painting department of the National Gallery of Armenia, emphasized that the last exhibition of the jubilee events dedicated to Minas Avetisyan is in Gyumri. Minasa Avetisyan, who is considered a symbol of the Armenian fine arts of the 60s, also has graphic works, which may be a surprise for many.
The artist’s son Arman Avetisyan was excited. Most of the legacy of his father, who died in a car accident in 1975, is in the museum of his native Jajur village. How many canvases Minas painted, his son does not know the exact number.
Lilit Tovmasyan, the head of the culture department of the Gyumri municipality, says that the cooperation with the National Gallery of Armenia is unprecedented, because they did not bring one or two paintings to the exhibition, but about 3 dozen.
The famous artist from Jajur did murals on the walls of various businesses in Gyumri in the 70s. Most of them were damaged and neglected after the 1988 earthquake. With the help of Italian specialists, it was possible to save and restore them, one of the murals is now at “Zvartnots” airport, two are in the government building, and the others are in other places.
The details are in the report of “Freedom”.
