Documentary director Seda Grigoryan is now trying to find out from an American company and a platform with filming crews in different countries of the world, how did it happen that his filming for a historical film about Urartu ended up in an Azerbaijani propaganda film? No answer yet.
The Azerbaijani CBC channel published a 37-minute film on January 2. In it, Yerevan is presented as an Azerbaijani city, where the Azerbaijani traces and Turkish culture are allegedly eliminated. It is noteworthy that, in addition to Azerbaijanis, Yerevanites also speak in the film, filming was done in the center of Yerevan, in the historical and archaeological museums of Erebuni and Sisian, the directors of these museums also speak in the film, there are also shots taken with a drone.
The title and description of the film create the impression that the drone of the Azerbaijani СВС TV company took the footage and that the Azerbaijani journalistic team pre-planned and carefully filmed without attracting additional attention.
We asked the National Security Service about this, and they urged us to send the question in writing.
However, it is already known that the shooting for the Azerbaijani film was done at the beginning of December. Part of them was carried out on December 2 by the documentary director Seda Grigoryan, without knowing that the material he shot would later appear not in an American historical documentary about Urartu, but in an Azerbaijani propaganda film.
Grigoryan made a clarifying post on Facebook, stating that the American organization No Frontiers LLC contacted him through the worldfixer platform, which searches for filming crews in different countries of the world.
Alex Gil, posing as an American producer, wrote that they are creating a series of documentaries on historical topics, and that one of the films will be about Urartu, so they want an interview with the director of the “Erebuni” museum.
As a result, a small part of the extensive interview, 30 seconds, in which the topic of the Republic Square excavations, not Urartu, was touched upon, appeared in the Azerbaijani film.
The speech of Mikael Badalyan of the Erebuni Museum used in the Azerbaijani film has nothing to do with the film and the theses presented in it.
“Actually, huge filming was done with such deception. among the materials shot by me in that film are the shots taken in the Erebuni Museum, 4-5 drone shots used at the end. The rest of the material is unfamiliar to me. I am terribly sorry for what happened and I think that I should have been more attentive and cautious, because my profession creates a wide field for such deceptions and manipulations,” Seda Grigoryan wrote on Facebook.
And it turns out that the filming in the Sisian museum was done on December 9, the director of the museum, Tatul Siuni, said that a Russian journalist represented by Sergey visited with a two-person film crew, said that they were interested in the museum, and interviewed him.
American University professor, political scientist Stepan Asturyan says that Armenia does not understand how deeply and systematically Azerbaijan is working to promote anti-Armenian theses at the state level.
“The nature of Azerbaijani nationalism is mainly based on Armenian hatred, I know that there were many articles, but the depth of that Armenian hatred has not yet been understood, people emphasize what is public or rude, but there is a whole machine of historians, archaeologists, anthropologists, whose job is to systematically deny the presence of Armenians in the South Caucasus historically, to pretend that they have been here for a long time, that Armenians are newcomers, etc. It is a very interesting phenomenon, because those words that were said about them in the 90s, that they are newcomers, have no identity, are returned in a mirror form by the activity of the state machine,” Asturyan noted.

On December 6, Azerbaijani political scientist Telman Gasimov shared a video in Armenian, in which he claimed that he had been to his birthplace in Yerevan, visited the yard of their building, and even climbed to the 5th floor of his former apartment.
The National Security Service, however, found out that the video is not new, the citizen of Azerbaijan was not in Yerevan, the footage was shot by another person and sent to Azerbaijan 6 years ago.
