In the open competition announced for the monument of the world-famous chansonnier Charles Aznavour, the professional jury made its choice from more than 60 applications and more than 100 models. According to the press release of the Yerevan Municipality, the work “La Boheme” by Davit Minasyan won 9 votes over the other versions, the second place was taken by the sculpture of Armenak Vardanyan, who will receive an incentive monetary award.
“This was one of the important works dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour,” said Mayor Tigran Avinyan, “I am sure that this sculpture will truly reflect the energy that Aznavour gave us during his lifetime.”
Charles Aznavour’s son Nicolas Aznavour thanked all the participants of the competition. “I see that each of them put their heart and soul into the projects. The main detail we emphasized was that the monument should be visible from all sides. This sculpture is also based on a special idea that my father is not alone, but is surrounded by an audience applauding him,” he said.
Within the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great chansonnier’s birth, this project has a special significance, emphasizes Yerevan Municipality.
The monument will be placed in France square.
