“Princess of the Fallen Fortress” returned to Gyumri with 5 awards, including the best play of the year

The people of Achemen returned with a rich “booty” from the annual “Artavazad” award ceremony. Director Ludvig Harutyunyan did not expect to return home with 6 awards at once. “Princess of the Fallen Fortress” directed by him was recognized as the best play of the year, and he was also the best director, a total of five awards for this play alone.

“We didn’t expect it. Each participant would like to win, but we did not think that we will have 6 prizes at the same time. It is very binding, I am very happy,” Ludvid Harutyunyan told Azatutyan.

In the play written by Levon Shant about a century ago, Prince Vasil, known for his greed and cruelty, kills Princess Anna’s husband and two little boys while capturing one of the fortresses of Cilicia. The captured princess vows to take revenge and kill her two sons by the hand of her father, Prince Vasil.

30 years ago, “Princess of the Fallen Fortress” was staged again.

This time, with a new directorial approach, there was a battle of red and black colors on the stage.

“The most important thing to say in this presentation is that we are not talking about revenge, revenge was used here as a symbol, I want us to understand where our mistakes were, to correct our mistakes, and most importantly, not to lose hope, we have no right because we are Armenians. we are, and if you are Armenian, then you will always have difficulties, that is how it happened in history, but you must be able to face those difficulties and I am sure that you will overcome them”, said the director.

Harutyunyan notices that when the director is able to make the audience a communicator of the performance, then it is successful.

“This performance has a number of important features: the beginning of the performance is very mysterious and there is a lot of atmosphere, it immediately transports the audience to that fortress, the audience appears in the place where the events are taking place. This is called, let me say in our professional language, you must be able to grab the audience and move them to the stage so that they believe in your feelings, and let me say more, even become a participant,” said Harutyunyan.

Tigran Gaboyan, who played Prince Vasil, was recognized as the best male actor. Nara Santoyan, as the best supporting actor, is also among those who received an award for this performance. The backstage workers were also awarded.
