A bronze head and hand of Anahit, held in the British Museum, will be displayed for half a year from September in the History Museum of Armenia. The loan agreement between the History Museum of Armenia and the British Museum was signed today by the director of the History Museum, Davit Poghosyan. The British side had put its signature earlier.
The goddess Anahit will be exhibited together with the samples related to the Mother Goddess from the rich collections of the History Museum of Armenia, the exhibition is called “Mother Goddess: Mariam from Anahit”. The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for the Independence Day of Armenia, September 21.
The director of the History Museum says that they started discussing the issue of organizing the Anahit exhibition in Armenia with the British Museum when the British Museum itself exhibited several samples from the History Museum of Armenia in May last year, including a ritual vessel in the shape of a bear, which it matched with the goddess Anahit.
